Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the change in ocular behavior and difficulties ,complications in vitrectomized oiled eyes during phacoemulsification
Setting:
Study was conducted at department of ophthalmology Post Graduate Medical Institute/Ameer ud Din Medical Colllege/Lahore General Hospital,Lahore from January 2013 to June 2016.
Methods:
A total of 372 vitrectomized silicone oiled eyes were included in the study. Direct vertical and horizontal chop phaco technique was used in all cases. Difficulties at different stages and how to manage complications and difficulties in the vitrectomized oiled eyes were identified and managed.All the patients were operated and followed by single surgeon for six months.
Results:
• 113 (30.3%)eyes had anterior capsular fibrosis, 129(34.6%) eyes silicone oil buble in anterior chamber ,189 (50.8%)eyes had week zonules ,210(56.4%) eyes had posterior capsular thickening and in 167(44.8%) eyes silicone oil bubble migration to anterior chamber during surgery.175 (47.04%)eyes nucleus sclerosis grade two to four,109 (29.3%)eyes mature white cataract and 88(23.6%) eyes having brunescent cataract
• 13(3.4%) eyes posterior capsular rip during surgery,17(4.56%) patients had mild to moderate sublaxation during surgery , 07(1.8%) eyes had dislocation of capsular bag during surgery ,06(1.6%) eyes underwent scleral fixation of IOL and 2 (0.5%)eyes had dislocation of capsular bag with IOL .
Conclusions:
Phacoemulsification in vitrectomized oiled eyes showed unusual difficulties and complications as compared to non vitrectomized eyes.
