Abstract Details
Purpose:
to compare the refractive outcomes of SMILE with 80 and 140 micron cap thickness
Setting:
Retrospective comparative study /
TRSC international LASIK Center, Bangkok, Thailand
Methods:
A retrospective chart review of all patients who underwent SMILE surgery from 2012 to 2016 was conducted. All cases with cap thickness of 80 microns (group 1) and 140 microns (group 2) were included in this study. The refractive outcomes including manifest refraction (MR), UDVA, BDVA was measured at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 month, 6 month and 1 year respectively.
Results:
168 eyes were enrolled in this study. There were no differences in the pre-operative variables between groups. The mean pre-operative MR was -4.7±2.1(group1) and -4.7±2.0(group2).There was higher percentage of eyes which achieved UDVA of 20/20 or better in group1 when compared to group2 at 1 week(95%vs.89%),1 month(92%vs.89%) and 3 month(92%vs.89%).The efficacy index was higher in group1 at all time points. The percentage of eyes which gain 1 line or more is also higher in group1 at 1 week(8%vs.0%),1 month(49%vs.14%),3 month(52%vs.16%) and 1 year(60%vs.37%).Both groups showed stable refraction through out the follow up period up to 1 year.
Conclusions:
The refractive outcomes of the superficial lenticule may be superior to deep lenticule location for SMILE.
