Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess the clinical outcomes in presbyopes implanted with the Raindrop® Near Vision Inlay (ReVision Optics, Inc., Lake Forest, CA, USA) in a corneal pocket.
Setting:
Laser Ocular Hidalgo, Monterrey, Mexico; Codet Vision, Tijuana, Mexico.
Methods:
Twenty-three (23) presbyopes were implanted with the Raindrop Inlay in the non-dominant eye in a stromal pocket created by using a 4x6 mm mask and IntraLase (AMO, Santa Ana, CA) femtosecond laser. Bed energy was 0.7 mJ, sidecut energy was 1.0 mJ, and spot and line separation was 5 x 5 mm or smaller. Patients were assessed at 6 months postoperative for visual acuities and satisfaction.
Results:
All patients implanted had a preop MRSE of -0.5 to +1.0 D. At 6 months (N=11), 91% of patients could see 20/40 or better and 73% could see 20/25 or better at near in the inlay eye. On average, the patients gained 4.8 lines ±1.7 of near vision compared to preop. 82% of patients could see 20/32 or better at distance in the inlay eye. At 6 months, 70% of patients were satisfied or better with their near vision.
Conclusions:
Early outcomes show improved near vision using the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay in a corneal pocket. Coupled with good distance visual acuity, the gain in near visual acuity resulted in majority of patients being satisfied. Longer term outcomes in pockets will be reported at the congress.
