Abstract Details
Purpose:
To study the optical quality of a new refractive intraocular lens (IOL) using ray-tracing wavefront aberrometry after implantation in patients undergoing cataract surgery.
Setting:
Oftalvist CIO Jerez, Jerez de la Frontera, Spain
Methods:
Three months after implantation of the refractive IOL (Precizon Presbyopic, Ophtec), patients were evaluated by ray-tracing wavefront analysis, including an examination of internal higher-order aberrations and internal modulation transfer function (MTF). In addition, binocular uncorrected visual acuities at distance (UDVA), intermediate (UIVA) at 80 cm and near (UNVA) at 40 cm, corrected distance visual acuities for distance (CDVA), intermediate (DCIVA) and near (DCNVA), and binocular contrast sensitivity (photopic and mesopic) were also measured.
Results:
Ten patients (20 eyes) were included in this study. The UDVA, UIVA and UNVA were 0.03±0.07, 0.06±0.08 and 0.15±0.07 logMAR, respectively. The CDVA, DCIVA and DCNVA were 0.00±0.06, 0.09±0.08 and 0.14±0.08 logMAR, respectively. Internal HOA, coma, spherical and trefoil values were 0.174±0.06, 0.09±0.04, 0.02±0.03 and 0.09±0.04 µm, respectively. The internal MTF values at spatial frequencies of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 cycles/degree were 0.566±0.139, 0.276±0.143, 0.163±0.106, 0.116±0.08, 0.095±0.06 and 0.081±0.05, respectively. There were no differences between photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity curves.
Conclusions:
The new refractive Precizon Presbyopic IOL provided good contrast sensitivity and VA at distance, intermediate and near. Optical quality and aberrations of implanted IOL could be measured with the iTrace.
