Abstract Details
Purpose:
To study the agreement between a color light-emiting diode based (Cassini) and Scheimpflug (Pentacam) based topographers in the evaluation of anterior, posterior and total astigmatism and analyzing high order aberrations and to compare the measures obtained
Setting:
Eurocanarias Oftalmológica Eye Clinic
Calle León y Castillo, 211
35004 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Spain
Methods:
30 eyes from 30 healthy patients were consecutively measured using Pentacam and Cassini. The main evaluated parameters were the anterior, posterior and total dioptric power and high order aberrations. The similitudes of the obtained results between both devices had been analyzed through the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and using Bland-Altman plots. The comparison was done using paired Student’s t-test.
Results:
The agreement between both devices when comparing the anterior and total corneal dioptric power was very high (ICC>0,85), but not so at the comparison of posterior cornea (ICC<0,5). The agreeement between high order aberrations was limited (ICC<0,4). When studying parameters of the anterior cornea, no statistically significant differences between both topographers were found (p>0,05). But they were found between the posterior and total parameters (p<0,001). Regarding aberrometry, when comparing trefoil no statistically significant differences were found, but, instead, it was obtained when comparing the measures of coma and spherical aberration.
Conclusions:
Both devices were highly comparable when studying the anterior face of the cornea, yet the agreement when measuring posterior cornea and high order aberrometry were varied. The data obtained by both topographers are not exchangeable.
