Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the two procedures.
Setting:
LaserVision.gr Clinical and Research Eye Institute, Athens, Greece
Methods:
In 22 consecutive patients (44 eyes), one eye was prospectively randomized to have PRK with EBK, and the contralateral: ETOH. We evaluated perioperative acuity, refraction (SE), keratometry, epithelialization (E) with biomicroscopy and OCT mapping, and associated pain (P).
Results:
Mean SE: -4.5D (-1.25 to -6.75). Mean values EBK vs. ETOH respectively that were statistically different (P<0.5): E in days: 3.2 vs. 4.2, pain 2.5/5 to 4/5, UDVA 20/20 week 1: 83.3% vs. 71.1%, E variability week 1: 3.2 vs. 6.4um, UDVA 20/20 day 30: 93% vs. 92,2%. No other differences noted.
Conclusions:
This novel EBK device and technique were superior to ETOH in E and P, when employed for myopic PRK.
