Congress Highlights

The XXX Congress of the ESCRS was highly successful,
with a record number of over 6,600 ophthalmologists
attending from across the world.

The extensive scientific programme included 19 symposia, over 700 free paper presentations, over 800 electronic poster presentations, and a wide range of didactic, instructional and wetlab courses. The 2nd ESCRS Glaucoma Day was held on Friday and was also a great success.

The Congress was held in conjunction with the 12th EURETINA, 3rd EuCornea and the 2nd WCPOS congresses, which brought a further 5,700 ophthalmologists to the MiCo congress centre.

The Ridley Medal Lecture 2012 was given by Mats Lundström during the Opening Ceremony on Sunday, with the title ‘Quality outcomes in cataract surgery: the real story’. You can view this highly acclaimed lecture at www.escrsondemand.com

In the 2012 Video Competition Graham Barrett, Australia, won the overall Michael Blumenthal Award for his video ‘Zen and the Art of Monovision Maintenance’. All videos are available for viewing at www.escrsondemand.com

The annual Young Ophthalmologists Programme took place on Saturday and was preceded by a YO party on Friday evening. New this year was a YO lounge for trainees to go to meet each other and find out more about ESCRS. A new Young Ophthalmologists Programme will take place during the 2013 Winter Meeting in Warsaw, as well as a symposium organised by the Young Ophthalmologists Committee.
