Abstract Details

Purpose:

The aim of the study was to get objective results together with clinical experience and patient satisfaction in the group of the first patients who underwent cataract surgery with the implantation of monofocal aspherical lens with blue filter Clareon (Alcon) at our clinic.

Setting:

European Eye Clinic Lexum, Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic

Methods:

This cohort study evaluated the outcomes in 66 eyes (45 patients) after implantation of Clareon lens (Alcon). Mean patient age was 69.2 years (48-85 years) and the mean follow-up period was 5 months. Postoperative measurements included objective refraction and visual acuity (Decimal). Data of the target (from different formulas: SRK/T, Haigis, Hoffer Q, Holladay 1) were compared to the achieved results (spherical equivalent) and divided into different groups: short (≤22.5 mm), moderate (>22.5 and <24.5 mm) and long (≥24.5 mm) eyes. Satisfaction and dysphotopsia (types and degree of perception - scale 1-10) were assessed using one questionnaire.

Results:

Mean postoperative CDVA was 0.98. The mean deviation between formulas’ target and achieved spherical equivalent was: in the SRK/T (total 0.25 D, short eyes 0.5 D, moderate eyes 0.22 D and long eyes 0.22 D), in the Haigis (0.24 D; 0.41 D; 0.22 D and 0.21 D), in the Hoffer Q (0.18 D; 0.08 D; 0.20 D and 0.16 D) and in the Holladay 1 (0.15 D; 0 D; 0.15 D and 0.15 D). 96% of the patients were highly satisfied, 4% moderately and no patient was dissatisfied. 22% of the patients experienced dysphotopsia (80% negative, 10% positive, 10% both).

Conclusions:

In this cohort study of 66 eyes after cataract surgery with implantation of Clareon lens (Alcon) we found a low difference of mean deviation between formulas´ target and achieved spherical equivalent in the total group but a higher difference among short, moderate & long eyes. Most of the patients were highly satisfied with the postoperative result and less than a quarter perceived dysphotopsia.
