Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess safety and efficacy of lamellar keratoplasty in children.

Setting:

Retrospective study of children operated during 2018 and 2019 with lamellar keratoplasty for superficial corneal opacities in Alexandria National Eye Center.

Methods:

We have operated 4 eyes of 4 patients with age range 7 to 15 years having corneal opacities due to keratoconus or Herpetic keratitis. Patients reports were used in this retrospective study

Results:

All cases have completed follow up periods of one year. One case had intracameral air injection. No rejection episodes nor any complications were reported. Illustrative videos for basic surgical steps of the 4operated casea will be showed. All case have their sutures removed by the end of follow up.at 1 year of follow up all cases had better than 20/40

Conclusions:

lamellar keratoplasty seems as a safe and effective treatment modality for children
