Abstract Details

Purpose:

Analysis of the results of a number of parameters of the anterior segment of the eye in patients with cataract and high myopia based on ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).

Setting:

¹Penza Institute for Further Training of Physicians – Branch Campus of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Further Professional Education “Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Professional Education” of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russia. ² The Penza Regional Eye Hospital, Russia.

Methods:

118 eyes, with cataract and myopia (AL=28,8±2,68mm) underwent UBM of a number of parameters of the eye prior to surgery. Was determined: anterior chamber depth (AC), distance from of the cornea to the posterior capsule of the lens (CPCD), thickness of the lens (CBT). In addition, on horizontal and vertical meridians were determined: diameter of the lens (CBHD), (CBVD), the cutting length of the anterior lens capsule (ACHD), (ACVD), the cutting length of the posterior lens capsule (PCHD), (PCVD), the perimeter of the lens cross section (CBHP), (CBVP). Was analyzed of average, minimum and maximum values of the parameters.

Results:

AC=2,78± 0,39 (2,02-3,9), CPCD=7,55±0,34 (6,67-8,47), CBHD=9,46±0,76 (7,74-11,55), CBVD=9,34±0,78 (7,73-11,59), CBT=4,26±0,41 (3,49 – 5,41), ACHD=10,62±0,84 (8,84 – 12,6), PCVD= 10,66±0,94 (7,84 – 13,36), CBHP=22,06±1,42 (19,52 – 25,26), CBVP=22,09±1,82 (17,7 – 28,1).

Conclusions:

The obtained biometric values of the examined eye parameters show, in addition to their average values, their substantial difference. This justifies the feasibility of performing biometrics prior to surgery and can be useful for surgeons to determine the optimal parameters of the operation, capsulorhexis size, dimensions and design IOL, CTR, as well as for design engineers and manufacturers of endocapsular implants.
