Customized toric lens for pellucid marginal degeneration: a case report

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To present a case report of 60 years male diagnosed with Pellucid Marginal Degeneration and senile immature cataract. Cataract surgery was planned with customized toric intra ocular lens with BCVA 20/20.

Setting:

Centre For Sight Eye Institute

Methods:

A 60 years old male presented with slow and progressive diminution of vision for 6 months. On clinical examination he was diagnosed to have senile immature cataract and corneal degeneration confirmed as pellucid marginal degeneration on corneal tomography (Oculus Pentacam). BCVA both eye were 1.00 on LogMar chart with discrepancies in pentacam and IOL master calculated astigmatism.Customized toric intra-ocular lens was implanted with BCVA both eye 0.00 on LogMar chart post cataract surgery. Patient is under follow up for over a year with stable refraction.

Results:

Patient underwent micro incision cataract surgery with customized toric intra-ocular lens. He is under the follow-up for over an year with stable refraction: OD: -0.5 Sph -0.75 Cyl at 6 degree OS: -1 Sph -1.00 Cyl at 89 degree

Conclusions:

Intra-ocular toric lenses can be customized with satisfactorily result for patients having cataract along with corneal degeneration like pellucid marginal degeneration.
