Comparative analysis of 3 swept-source optical coherence tomography biometers in patients with refractive lens exchange

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare 3 different swept-source optical coherence tomography based biometers, the IOLMaster 700 (reference biometer), Argos and Anterion (new biometer) and its accuracy of intraocular lens power calculation in refractive lens exchange patients.

Setting:

KEYE EYE Clinic/South Korea

Methods:

A total of 120 patiens (240 eyes) who had uneventful refractive lens exchange with single trifocal intraocular lens (TFNT00, Alcon) were included. The axial length (AL), mean keratometry (Km), J0, J45, anterior chamber depth (ACD), lens thickness (LT), white to white (WTW) were compared between SS-OCT biometers. The agreement was analyzed by the Bland-Altman method. Difference between predicted refractive error and refractive error at postoperative 2 month were calculated using Barrett universal II formula for evaluating accuracy of each biometer.

Results:

The agreement between the 3 biometers was high (ICC, 0.92-1.00). Absolute refractive errors (│postoperative manifest refraction – predicted refractive error│) of operated eyes were not statistically different among each biometer (Argos 0.36 ± 0.35 D, IOLMaster 700 0.34 ± 0.36 D and Anterion 0.35 ± 0.35 D, p=0.057).

Conclusions:

AL, Km, LT, J0, J45 seem to be comparable between three devices, while WTW doesn’t. IOL power predictions using Barrett Universal II was correlated between the devices. There was minor, not statistically significant differences between three optical biometers that refractive outcome predicted by ARGOS and Anterion were more myopic than IOLMaster 700.
