Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the main types of lenses involved and their position in the uveitis glaucoma hypema syndrome (SUGH) at present, as well as the type of treatment used to solve it.

Setting:

We included patients with SUGH, identified between 2016 and 2019 at the Complexo Hospital Universitario A Coruña.

Methods:

Retrospective study. The following data were collected: latency time, clinical presentation, medium age, type of lens involved and its position, comorbidities, treatment modality, complications, visual results and success rate.

Results:

A total of 12 SUGH cases were identified in 12 patients: 63.6% men, 36.4% women, mean age79.9 years. 36.4% presented the complete syndrome, 63.6% incomplete forms. 54.54% presented hemovitreous. The monobloc lens was identified in 66.6% of the cases, and in 66.6% of the cases the IOL was inside the capsular sac. All patients were reoperated: In 50% of the cases the lens / sac-IOL complex was replaced and 50% required IOL replacement. The UGH was resolved in 11 of 12 cases.

Conclusions:

Currently, most cases of SUGH occur in patients with a monobloc lens located inside the capsular sac. The reintervention of the patient was necessary in all cases, but 50% of the cases can be addressed by repositioning the IOL / sac-IOL complex, and replacement is necessary in the other 50%. The treatment led to the resolution of symptoms in the vast majority of patients.
