Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the visual performance and patient-reported outcomes after bilateral implantation of a new non-diffractive wavefront shaping extended range of vision intraocular lens (IOL) 3 months after femtosecond-assisted cataract surgery.
Setting:
Prospective single-arm study, Department of Ophthalmology, Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany.
Methods:
This study included fifteen patients (30 eyes) who received bilateral implantation of the non-toric extended range of vision IOL (AcrySof® IQ Vivity®, Alcon Research, Fort Worth, TX, USA) pre-enrollment. Main outcome measures were monocular and binocular uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity at 4m, 80 cm, 66 cm and 40 cm (UDVA, UIVA, UNVA, CDVA, DCIVA, DCNVA; logMAR); defocus testing, and a questionnaire on subjective quality of vision, optical phenomena, and spectacle independence.
Results:
At 3 months postoperative, 8 patients (16 eyes) had UDVA of 0.11±0.14 logMAR, UIVA (80 cm, 66 cm) and UNVA (40 cm) were 0.13±0.09 logMAR, 0.11±0.10 logMAR and 0.26±0.11 logMAR. CDVA was 0.00±0.07 logMAR, DCIVA 0.14±0.10 logMAR (80 cm), 0.14±0.17 logMAR (66 cm) and DCNVA 0.33±0.09 logMAR. Binocular defocus curve shows good visual results between 0.11 logMAR and 0.14 logMAR (-1.50D to +0.5 D). Patients report few optical phenomena in daily activities. All patients require visual aids for reading, with 75% of patients spectacle independent at distance. 7 patients would choose the same IOL again and recommend it to others.
Conclusions:
The non-diffractive wavefront shaping extended range of vision IOL offers good vision in distant and intermediate distance. Patients were very satisfied especially with the visual acuity in their daily activities particularly reporting good driving at night abilities. At the congress we will present our results of the first 30 eyes after 3 months.
