Abstract Details
Purpose:
The aim of this paper is to describe a novel technique of gluing as an interim measure to provide tectonic support in cases of medium to large sized (3-6mm) corneal perforations
Setting:
The study was conducted at apex eye institute (A.I.I.M.S, New Delhi) and written informed consent was obtained from all study patients
Methods:
Five eyes of five patients in which conventional cyanoacrylate glue application was not feasible and therapeutic keratoplasty could not be performed in view of the unavailability of corneal tissues were included. Modified contact lens sandwich technique was performed to maintain integrity of the globe and a therapeutic keratoplasty was done on tissue availability
Results:
Therapeutic keratoplasty was done on tissue availability (mean interval of 7.4 days). On follow-up, all patients had a well-formed anterior chamber and none of them had progression
Conclusions:
The contact lens sandwich technique of glue was a feasible, reproducible, and economical technique during times of tissue unavailability such as the present COVID 19 pandemic, in patients with medium to large perforated corneal ulcers.
