Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report the visual and clinical of hybrid contact lens in advanced keratoconus.

Setting:

mraniye Research and training hospital

Methods:

A retrospective case review was performed of 18 eyes of 12 advanced keratoconus patients who had been fitted with hybrid contact lenses in one or both eyes. Visual acuity, comfort, mean wear time, final lens parameters and adverse events were documented.

Results:

The mean age of the patients (7 male, 5 female ) was 24.76 3.84 . Mean logMAR visual acuity was improved from 0.87 0.78 to 0.16 0.11 with hybrid contact lenses. Eighty-four percent of patients found the hybrid contact lenses to be comfortable and the mean daily wear time was 9.1 hours. Mean Kmax value was 59.0 0.76(50.0-67.0), the mean spherical component of refractive error was -3.720.42 (2.5-7.0) and average base curve was 6.650.76 (6.4-8.0 ). One patient discontinued contact lens wearing due to conjunctival hyperemia and discomfort.

Conclusions:

The use of new-generation hybrid contact lenses is a good alternative for patients with advanced keratoconus who are unable to achieve an adequate visual outcome with spectacles and for those who failed to respond rigid gas permeable lens rehabilitation because of discomfort.
