Abstract Details
Purpose:
The aim of the study was to compare and evaluate the corneal high-order aberrations and Strehl ratios of patients with atopic keratoconjunctivitis with healthy subjects using Scheimpflug-Placido corneal topography.
Setting:
Health Sciences University - Antalya Training and Research Hospital, Ophthalmology Department, Turkey
Methods:
Twenty-six eyes of 26 patients with atopic keratoconjunctivitis and 30 eyes of 30 healthy patients were included in the study. Detailed ophthalmologic examination including corneal topography and corneal aberrometry was performed on all patients using Scheimpflug-Placido topography (Sirius, CSO, Italy).
Results:
The coma and trefoil aberration values of the patients with atopic keratoconjunctivitis were statistically significant when compared with healthy subjects (p = 0.06, p = 0.025, respectively). No statistically significant difference was found in terms of spherical aberration value (p = 0.553). The difference between optical path difference (OPD) and total high order aberration (HOA) values was also statistically significant (p = 0.03, p = 0.04, respectively). When both groups were evaluated in terms of Strehl ratio, there was a statistically significant difference (p = 0.03).
Conclusions:
In the eye examination of patients with atopic keratoconjunctivitis, it should be considered that higher order aberrations increased and Strehl ratio decreased, and the quality of vision in these patients decreased due to this situation.
