Abstract Details
Purpose:
We report through our study the clinical and radiological aspect of the cavernous angioma of the orbit and we discuss its therapeutic management.
Setting:
Service d'ophtalmologie A, Hôpital de spécialités, Rabat, Morocco.
Methods:
Our work is a retrospective study of five cases of cavernous hemangiomas of the orbit confirmed histologically, supported in our department, between 2016 and 2020. All of our patients underwent radiological examination (MRI-CT). The tumor was resected en bloc and in full in four patients. Surgical abstention decided in one patient (pauci-symptomatic).
Results:
The age of our patients vary between 29 and 65 years, with an average of 45 years. A female predominance is noted: 4 F / 1 H. The first symptom was exophthalmos in all patients. The reduction in visual acuity was observed in two patients. Oculomotor deficits were observed in 2 patients. At Fundus, papillary edema in 1 patient and papillary hyperemia in 1 other were observed. The evolution was marked by reduction in exophthalmos in all patients operated with improvement in VA in 1 patient, and reduction in VA in 1 patient due to NO impairment.
Conclusions:
Cavernous hemangioma of the orbit is a slowly growing benign tumor. While the clinical and radiological picture is relatively stereotypical, there is not always a histological-clinical correlation. Current imaging methods allow a strong preoperative diagnostic presumption.
