Tacrolimus ointment in periorbital atopic Dermatitis case series

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To study the efficacy and safety of Tacrolimus ointment in periorbital atopic Dermatitis

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, East Jeddah Hospital, Jeddah, KSA.

Methods:

Five cases were found to have papillary reaction along with peri ocular thick, dark,and dry skin in form of atopic dermatitis, We started them on topical Tacrolimus with 0.03-0.01 % ointment BID for one week. Later on, we found improved successfully without site infection or other ointment side effects The effectiveness was assessed regularly for up to 1 year

Results:

patients reported the skin thickness and darkness improved significantly after using Tacrolimus ointment for all Patients. with less recurrent of signs for longer time up to 1 year comparing to use traditional steroid ointment

Conclusions:

our study showed that Tacrolimus is safe and effective for the treatment of flare or resistance periorbital atopic dermatitis in adult and children. This represents alternative treatment with less complication of steroid with extended time effectiveness.
