Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the anterior segment measurements obtained with Lenstar LS 900 optical biometer (Haag-Streit AG) and Pentacam Scheimpflug System (Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany) in high myopic eyes.

Setting:

A retrospective study was designed to evaluate the agreement between Lenstar LS 900 optical biometer and Pentacam Scheimpflug System for the anterior segment measurements in high myopic eyes.

Methods:

In this study, 67 eyes of 41 patients (25 males, 16 females) whose spherical equivalents were (SE) -6.00 D and above before refractive surgery, were analyzed retrospectively. Preoperative keratometric readings (flat K (K1), steep K (K2)), anterior chamber depth (ACD) and central corneal thickness (CCT) measurements of the patients were evaluated. The difference between the measurements of the devices was analyzed with a paired t test and Bland-Altman graphics, and the agreement between the devices was evaluated with 95% Confidence Interval (CI).

Results:

The mean age of the patients was 28.36 ± 7.00 years. The mean values were 43.08 ± 1.23 D for K1, 44.39 ± 1.28 D for K2, 3.92 ± 0.33 mm for ACD, and 556.49 ± 28.30 μm for CCT with Pentacam. They were 43.09 ± 1.20 D for K1, 44.30 ± 1.29 D for K2, 3.92 ± 0.29 mm for ACD, and 551.27 ± 30.57 μm for CCT with Lenstar. There was a high correlation for the K1, K2, ACD and CCT measurements between the devices (r = 0.970, r = 0.966, r = 0.872, r = 0.936, respectively).

Conclusions:

In high myopic eyes, both of the devices can provide a high level of agreement for anterior segment measurements in daily practice.
