Purpose:
: To evaluate the efficacy, predictability, safety and complications of the toric iris-fixated phakic intraocular lens for the correction of myopic astigmatism.
Setting:
: Department of Ophthalmology, Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Central, Lisbon, Portugal
Methods:
Retrospective analysis of data from patients implanted with phakic toric iris-fixated intraocular lens (Artiflex® and Artisan®) at our department from 2009 to 2012. Main parameters evaluated were uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuities, refraction, slitlamp biomicroscopy, tonometry, topography and central endothelial cell count.
Results:
The study enrolled 30 eyes of patients with ages from 26 to 47. The majority of our patients had a decline of endothelial cell count. Most of our patients had a residual astigmatism between 0,25-0,75. The most frequent pos-operatory complication was pigment precipitates on the lens; there was one case of intraocular pressure elevation
Conclusions:
Phakic toric iris-fixated intraocular lens are an effective, predictable and safe solution for the correction myopic astigmatism
