Purpose:
We report a case of a 66-year-old male came to our service with a 3-month complaint of left eye proptosis.
Setting:
: Hospital de Sabadell (CSPT). Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, Sabadell, Barcelona, Spain.
Methods:
On examination patient present left eye proptosis, extraocular superior movement restriction and double vision in those versions. CT scan showed a soft-tissue mass involving the frontal sinus. MRI demonstrated left frontal sinus mass with intracranial invasion through the posterior wall and left orbit extension.
Results:
Histology revealed squamous cell carcinoma stage IV (T4b N0 M0). Chemotherapy with 5 fluorouracil, cisplatin and Taxol was started.
Conclusions:
Cancer of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses is relatively rare with an incidence of less than 1 per 100,000 persons per year, and represents only 3 % of all head and neck malignancies. Frontal sinus squamous cell carcinoma is paranasal sinus tumor that produces less frequency ophthalmic affection.
