Our experience with preloaded IOL

Purpose:

To evaluate the preloaded CT Asphina 509/MD system from Carl Zeiss Meditec , in term of safety, easy of insertion and post operative results.

Setting:

: The Dr Solomatin eye center and the Latvian university ophthalmology department

Methods:

Prospective study of 70 eyes, implanted with CT Asphina preloaded hydrophile IOL with hydophobic surface, during phacoemulsification cataract surgery after a period of one year from August 2011 to July 2012. All patient were between 50-80 years old.

Results:

All 70 eyes had smooth assembly of insertion system and intra-bag insertion of IOL. IOL’s had an excellent centration during all follow-up period. 12 month post-operatively, the UDVA (Snellen lines) was 1.0 or better in 65 eyes (92%).The CDVA improved by 1 line in 54 eyes (77%) and by 2 lines in 3 eyes (4%). Neither of operating eyes lost the lines. All eyes were within +/- 0,5 of the target refraction. There were no serious complications during follow-up period.

Conclusions:

After a short time follow-up, preloaded CT Asphina IOL implantation was effective, predictable, stable and safe for correction of cataract problems.
