Abstract Details

Purpose:

Preoperative and postoperative aberrations in patients undergoing LASIK and Zyoptix

Setting:

: Dr Nanda Eye Care Centre, our study 45 eyes underwent LASIK and 29 eyes underwent Zyoptix using Bausch and Lomb Technolas 217z machine. Parameters used were: Wavelength 193nm, fluence 130mj/cm2 and ablation zone diameters between 4.8mm and 6mm

Methods:

The hansatome used (Bausch and Lomb) in all the eyes. Either 180um or 160um plate was used in all the eyes 160um.

Results:

• 81.8% of patients achieved equal or more than 6/6 UCVA • 33.78% achieved UCVA of 6/5. • 14.8% patients postoperative 3rd order aberrations were not found whereas in 33.78% • 4th and 5th order aberrations were nil. • There is decreased aberrations in patients who underwent LASIK and Zyoptix

Conclusions:

• There is decreased aberrations in patients who underwent LASIK and Zyoptix. • LASIK removes higher order aberrations in few patients but the point spread function is a large blur, so clarity of vision is less. • Zyoptix performs customized ablation and thus minimizing the wavefront deformation, the point spread function is a small spot of light, hence clarity of vision improves. • So removal of the wavefront aberrations may extend the benefit of improved UCVA to patients with abnormal wavefront.
