Purpose:
To evaluate 6 month outcomes of binocular uncorrected intermediate visual acuity in presbyopic hyperopes following treatment with Supracor presbyopic LASIK algorithm
Setting:
: Eye Laser Suite, Mater Private Hospital, Dublin, Ireland
Methods:
A prospective study of 50 eyes (25 patients) treated bilaterally with the SUPRACOR presbyopic algorithm using the Technolas 217P excimer laser (Bausch + Lomb Technolas) and followed up to 6 months. The mean preoperative spherical equivalent was +2.03D +/- 0.68. Intermediate vision was tested using the Optec Vision Tester (Stereo Optical Co., Inc, Chicago, U.S.)
Results:
Mean uncorrected binocular intermediate visual acuity was 0.57 +/- 0.18 (logMAR). At 6 month follow-up the mean uncorrected binocular intermediate vision was 0.14 +/- 0.17 (logMAR). A mean gain of +4.11 +/- 1.96 lines of intermediate vision was observed.
Conclusions:
In addition to improving near and distance visual acuity in presbyopic hyperopes, the Supracor algorithm is effective in improving intermediate vision with a mean gain of +4.11+/- 1.96 lines of intermediate vision observed at 6 month follow-up. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
