Purpose:
To evaluate safety and efficacy of SMILE on follow up more than 2 years
Setting:
: Roaya vision center Alexandria Egypt
Methods:
prospective non comparative case series carried out on 1936 eyes of 1013 myopic patients treated with femtosecond laser SMILE from 2010. Uuncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) , best spectacle corrected visual acuity(BSCVA), manifest refraction and contrast sensitivity were measured in all cases.
Results:
Mean preoperative UCVA , BSCVA and spherical equivalents were 0 .1 ,0.8 and -4.93 respectively. All these parameters showed statistically significant change in the postoperative period. (p<0.01) .Mean postoperative UCVA,BSCVA , spherical equivalent were 0.88,o.98 and -0.38 respectively. A few operative and postoperative complications were reported in our case series.
Conclusions:
SMILE is a safe and effective procedure with long term refractive stability FINANCIAL INTEREST: ... receives consulting fees, retainer, or contract payments from a company producing, developing or supplying the product or procedure presented
