Purpose:
To present the results of hyperopic LASIK with 6 month follow up of 992 consecutive eyes undergoing hyperopic femtosecond laser assisted LASIK
Setting:
: Ultralase Optimax Group Eye Surgery Clinics, United Kingdom
Methods:
992 eyes of 496 patients underwent femtosecond laser assisted LASIK. We present uncorrected visual acuities (UCVA), best corrected visual acuities (BCVA), defocus, stability and safety data. This was a multi surgeon and multi centre study. Sphere of up to+5.25 and cylinder of up to -5.00 was treated. Follow up duration was for a minimum of 6 months.
Results:
90% of patients were within +/-0.5D of 100% were within +/1.00D of emmetropia respectively. 88% had a defocus of <0.5D and 99% had a defocus of <1.00D. 82% of patients achieved 20/20 or better and 100% of patients were 20/40 or better. 22% of patients gained 1 line of vision and 1% gained 2 lines of BCVA respectively. There was no reported incidence of loss of 2 lines or more of BCVA.
Conclusions:
Hyperopic LASIK with the Schwind Amaris 750s is both safe and effective. Longer rem follow up data is required to determine stability. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
