Abstract Details

Purpose:

The aim is to present a 17 years old patient with rapidly progressive and aggressive keratoconus in both eyes, on which to perform crosslinking.

Setting:

: Milos Eye Clinic, Belgrade, Serbia.

Methods:

Uncorrected and best-corrected spectacle vision, mean spherical equivalent refraction and astigmatism, mean central keratometry, mean baseline central pachymetry were recorded in one month, every week.

Results:

An increase in myopia and astigmatism of 3 diopters, an increase in mean central keratometry readings on topography of 6 diopters, a decrease in mean central corneal thickness of 20µm were recorded in both eyes in three weeks. Both eyes were treated with crosslinking.

Conclusions:

Keratoconus progression in children could be very fast and aggressive. It seems quite necessary to treat eyes that demonstrate rapidly progressive keratoconus with corneal collagen crosslinking. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
