Purpose:
The femtosecond laser improves the clinical outcome in refractive procedures and in the transplantation of cornea. This is used in the corneal transplantation surgery, in order for creation a perfect donor descemetoendothelial lamela.Femtosecond laser endothelial keratoplasty reduced post-operative astigmatism and a faster vision rehabilitation.
Setting:
: Spetial Hospital for Ophthalmology,"Milos clinic",Belgrade,Serbia
Methods:
There is a video presentation of our patients operated on our clinic, in which perforative or posterior lamelar keratoplasty were made with the femtosecond laser.
Results:
We showed several cases of the corneal transplantation using the femtosecond laser, which is sufficient for the acquiring of good clinical experience, but insufficient for statistical processing.
Conclusions:
The posterior lamelar keratoplasty can also be done by means of the femtosecond laser (FLEK). This results in faster healing of the operation wound, reduced astigmatism, and faster vision and working rehabilitation. On the other hand, the price of the operation is increased, the duration of the operation is prolonged, and the logistic problem make this surgical approach non-standard in corneal transplantation.
