Abstract Details

Purpose:

In some cases it is impossible to achieve emmetropic refraction after cataract surgery due to incorrect calculation of IOL power. Pseudophakic supplementary intraocular lenses (IOL) are used to achieve ametropy. The purpose of the study was to evaluate efficacy and safety of Sulcoflex aspheric IOL for the correction of postoperative refractive error .

Setting:

: Moscow Region Scientific Investigation Clinical Institute, Moscow, Russia

Methods:

6 patients after cataract surgery with IOL implantation had myopic refraction of 4 to 6 diopters. Cataract extraction was performed 2 to 6 years before. In 2 cases it was extracapsular extraction with PMMA IOL implantation, in 4 cases - phacoemulsification with implantation of hydrophilic (2 cases) and hydrophobic (2 cases) acrylic flexible IOL. In the fellow eye emmetropia after phaco and IOL implantation was achieved. In all cases Sulcoflex IOL was implanted in the ciliary sulcus . No peripheral iridotomy was performed

Results:

The result was emmetropia in all cases, binocular vision restored. Postoperative IOP was normal, there were no signs of uveitis . In the long run all IOLs retained transparency, no pigment dispersion was observed. Observation period from 6 months to 2 years.

Conclusions:

Sulcus implantation of Sulcoflex asheric IOL is safe and effective in correction of postsurgical ametropia. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
