Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess long term results of diffractive multifocal intraocular lens implantation (Restor , Alcon) in patient’ s visual function.

Setting:

: Ophthalmos Research and Therapeutic Institute, Athens, Greece

Methods:

Retrospective study including 98 eyes (51 patients ) operated for cataract that completed a minimum of 5 years follow up. Distance and near visual acuity was assessed along with patient’s satisfaction, dependence on glasses and presence of photopic phenomena.

Results:

Mean follow up period was 73 months. At the end of the follow up 76,5% of eyes had CDVA better or equal to 20/25, and 83,6% CNVA better or equal to J2 (at 35 cm). 4 eyes needed further LASIK refractive surgery for correction of postoperative residual astigmatism. 8 patients needed glasses for all tasks while 10 patients only used distance glasses occasionally. Patient’s satisfaction overall was high. Adaptation to photopic phenomena improved with time.

Conclusions:

Visual function of eyes implanted with a diffractive intraocular lens remains satisfactory 6 years following implantation. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
