Abstract Details

Purpose:

Report an 57-year-old man underwent uneventful phacoemulsification and aspiration with an implantation of a pseudoaccomodative WIOL-CF intraocular lens.

Setting:

: SPSK no. 5, Departament of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland

Methods:

Three days later, he developed endophthalmitis with negative aqueous cultures, and the inflammation was resistant to conventional antibacterial therapies

Results:

He was treated successfully with pars plana vitrectomy with flushing of vancomycin but the IOL was not removed. A combination of intravitreal vancomycin and systemic antybiotics were prescribed, and the inflammation was resolved. As best we know, this is the first reported case of endophthalmitis that followed the implantation of a WIOL-CF intraocular lens. 6 months after surgery uncorrected visual acuity for distance and near (Snellen charts) was 0.9 and 0.5, respectively.

Conclusions:

We achieved perfect results and patients' satisfaction after surgery beside potentially vision-threatening complication. FINANCIAL INTEREST: ... receives non-monetary benefits from a competing company.
