Purpose:
To report our clinical experience of phacoemulsification and foldable IOL implantation with posterior optic capture in paediatric traumatic cataract.
Setting:
: All cases done by single surgeon and done at Ratan Jyoti Netralaya, Ophthalmic Institute & Research Centre
Methods:
A prospective interventional case series including 52 eyes of 52 patients who underwent phacoemulsification at our centre for traumatic cataract. Temporal clear corneal phaco was done along with three piece foldable IOL implantation and posterior optic capture. Patients were followed for evaluating the refractive status and complications. Patients with less than 6 month followup were excluded.
Results:
Mean age of patients was 8.846 years(range 2-15). Mean followup was 14.76months(range 6-36). Mean BCVA at last followup was 0.277(logMAR). Visual axis remained clear in all the patients, with no incidence of posterior capsular opacification and other complications.
Conclusions:
Phacoemulsification and foldable IOL implantation with posterior optic capture in traumatic pediatric cataract appears to be an effective and safe technique. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
