Purpose:
We have assessed the accuracy and reproducibility of biometry performed with the Aladdin biometer (Topcon) in comparison with the current gold standard device, the IOLMaster 500 (Carl Zeiss Meditec).
Setting:
Morela okulisti, Center for Eye Refractive Surgery, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Methods:
Measurements were undertaken with the Aladdin and IOLMaster 500 by two experienced practitioners. After determination of axial length (AL), corneal radii values by keratometry (R1 and R2), and anterior chamber depth (ACD), power calculation for a premium IOL were compared between the 2 devices. The target was emmetropia.
Results:
In a study of 100 measured eyes comparing the two systems, the mean difference was 0.01 mm for axial length and 0.01 mm for anterior chamber depth. The average Ks were 0.03 D different. None of these parameters showed any statistically significant difference. The calculated intraocular power was also comparable with a mean difference of 0,06D.
Conclusions:
There was no statistically significant difference in predicted IOL powers between the Aladdin and the IOLMaster. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
