Setting:
To evaluate changes of the modulation transfer function (MTF) after refractive lenticule extraction (Relex® Smile).
Methods:
In this prospective, non comparative study 102 eyes of 52 patients with the spherical equivalent (SE) of -4.23 diopters (D) who underwent Relex® Smile were analysed with OPD-SCAN® (Nidek) device. MTF values are compared before surgery then 1 month and 3 months after the surgery. For the surgeries, we used the Carl Zeiss Meditec VisuMax femtosecond laser system with a 500 KHz repetition rate.
Results:
At 1 month, mean deviation from the intended correction was +1.00/-0.50, with 91% within +/- 0,5 D and 100% within +/- 1 D; 50 % achieved uncorrected distance visual acuity of 20/20 or better and 100% achieved 20/32 or better. At 3 months, 100% had mean deviation from the intended within +/- 0,5 D; 99% achieved uncorrected distance visual acuity of 20/20 or better and 100% achieved 20/32 or better. At 1 month, a decrease in MTF values occurred at 20 cycles per degree (cpd) (p<0,05) and at 15 cpd (p<0,05). At 3 months, there were no changes at 20, 15, 10 or 5 cpd.
Conclusions:
Relex Smile induced a decrease of MTF values at 1 month, but at 3 months values were similar to that of pre-operative values. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE"
