Purpose:
The first clinical experience with a novel ultraviolet laser for flap creation for lasik surgery
Setting:
Gemini Eye Clinic, Prague
Methods:
Ultraviolet spectrum laser (Sirama, Schwind) was used for flap cutting for lasik surgery on 10 myopic eyes of 5 patients with mean age 32 years. Intended flap thicknes was 120 mikrometers. Myopia was corrected by excimer laser (Amaris 1000, Schwind).
Results:
It was possible to dock the patient in all cases. The flap was successfully created in all cases.
The mean preoperative refraction -4,25D ±1,9D (-2,5; -7,25) was decreased to -0.25D ±0.2D (+0.25; -1.25) at 1 month after surgery. Achieved flap thickness was 124 ±7 micrometers. Video of the surgery with flap lifting will be displayed.
Conclusions:
The first clinical experience with the new ultraviolet spectrum picosecond laser is promising. The data on more patients will be presented in the near future. FINANCIAL INTEREST: NONE
