Purpose:
To assess higher predictability of the customize cut precision and dimension with a smooth cut and higher impact of clinical outcome
Setting:
Swiss Eye Research Foundation, Eye Clinic Orasis, Reinach AG, Switzerland
Methods:
Performance of the FEMTO LDV Z6 PowerPlus is evaluated in vivo for cataract surgery. 24 eyes were analyzed following cataract surgery, in one eye a femto-phako approach were done and in the other the cataract surgery were performed conventional. Analysis was done using topography, wavefront measurement, corneal OCT, confocal corneal laser-scanning microscopy and clinical examinations.
Results:
Achieved very smooth cutting surface by application of small bubbles and high frequency. A perfect access was achieved of main, primary incision and paracentesis. The visual acuity increases significantly in both groups p<0.001. Between the means of the groups there is not significant difference p=0.47 but between the standard deviation at each time (p<0.01). There is not significant difference regarding HOA RMS in the LDV group (p=0.107) at any time but significant in the conventional phako group (p=0.014).
Conclusions:
FEMTO LDV Z6 PowerPlus, which combines pulse energy in low nanojoule and frequency in megahertz range, results of a highly predictable quality resection for cataract surgery with a significant smaller range of visual acuity and significant smaller HOA RMS compare with conventional phako.
