First Author: : MatsLundstrom SWEDEN
Co Author(s): : Konrad Pesudovs
Purpose:
To describe the inclusion of two patient questionnaires into EUREQUO and to exemplify what additional knowledge that can be obtained from collecting patient-reported outcomes
Setting:
Surgeons and clinics using the EUREQUO database
Methods:
Two patient-reported outcomes measures will be included in the EUREQUO: QIRC for refractive surgery and Catquest-9SF for cataract surgery. These questionnaires will be translated to a number of European languages and available on the EUREQUO homepage free of use. The translations will follow a standard procedure for patient questionnaires and validation studies for the new language versions will be performed. Both questionnaires are Rasch analyzed. Examples of how patient-reported outcomes can promote clinical improvement work will be given.
Results:
The questionnaires are already translated into 3 different languages. Another 5 languages are on way. The technical part will be ready in 2014 and after that any surgeon affiliated to the EUREQUO can use the patient questionnaires when desired. Patient-reported outcomes have been reported to modify indications for surgery and new knowledge will be obtained when clinical outcomes and patient-reported outcomes disagree.
Conclusions:
Questionnaires for patient-reported outcomes for cataract and refractive surgery will be available at the EUREQUO homepage in eight different languages. These questionnaires will enable surgeons and clinics to evaluate indications for surgery from the patient’s perspective and also interpret why clinical outcomes and patient-reported outcomes disagree.
