Purpose:
Clinical evaluation of a aberration corrected, pure diffractive, pupil independent and toric MIOL.
Setting:
International Vision Correction and research Centre (IVCRC), Dept. of Ophthalmology, Univ. of Heidelberg
Methods:
In a prospective multicenter study a tMIOL (ZMT--, AMO, USA) was implanted in patients with a corneal astigmatism greater 0.75 D undergoing cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange. Pre-operative biometry was performed with the IOL-Master (V5.4, Carl Zeiss Meditech, Germany). Subjective refraction, corrected and uncorrected visual acuity, monocular and binocular (near, intermediate and distance [logMar]) as well as binocular defocus curve and rotation stability were evaluated.
Results:
So far 44 eyes are enrolled in the study. Three month after surgery median binocular UDVA was 0.0 [logMAR] combined with a median binocular UNVA of 0.0. Even with a near addition of +4.0D, median binocular UIVA was 0,2. Overall ZMT showed good rotational stability.
Conclusions:
The aberration corrected, pure diffractive, pupil independent and toric multifocal IOL show good refractive results for near, intermediate and distance visual acuity. The rotational stability is very good. The +4.0D near addition in combination with a toric optic offers high spectacle independence and patient satisfaction.
