Astigmatism profile following MyoRing implantation

Abstract Details

Purpose:

This study was designed to investigate the changes in the corneal tortusity six months following the Myoring placement in cases with Keratoconus.

Setting:

This retrospective study conducted at Farabi University of Medical Sciences in Tehran.

Methods:

This study performed by documentation of astigmatism prior and six months after Myoring implantation in 34 eyes of 28 keratoconus cases with mean age of 41.41 ± 29 years.

Results:

The results revealed a significant decrease in the mean of cylindrical refractive errors from - 4.27 D +/- 3.15 to -2.18 D +/- 1.63 (P <0.001). Moreover, the mean of astigmatism in the anterior surface of the cornea after surgery decreased by 1.16 D (P = 0.001) and the mean posterior posterior corneal astigmatism with a decrease of 0.24 D (P = 0.009). The prevalence rate of the cylindrical axes of the preoperative refraction was 21%, 44% and 35%, with the rule; oblique and against the rule astigmatism, respectively. Whereby, postoperative astigmatism were 18%, 24% and 58%, with the rule; oblique and against the rule astigmatism, respectively.

Conclusions:

Myoring provides a significant improvement in the amount of corneal tortusity that results in better quality of vision.
