Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess biometric and refractive changes after Ahmed valve implantation

Setting:

Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Multifield Hospital № 2

Methods:

In total, 29 eyes of 29 glaucoma patient (16 male and 13 female) undergoing Ahmed valve implantation;Observation time: from April 2017 to October 2017 (6 months);Refractometry, keratometry, axial length measurement, IOP (Topcon KR – 8800, IOL-Master 500 Carl Zeiss, iCare) was performed for each patient before tube implantation, in the1st postsurgical day, in 1 month and in 6 months after surgery.

Results:

Ahmed valve implantation causes mild hypermetropic shift (0,19 D) after 6 months after tube surgery;Axial length shortening from 23,61 ± 1,05 to 23,56 ± 1,1 mm (p = 0,23) 6 months after Ahmed implantation. Our data correlate with Francis B., et al (2005), they found AL shortening after Baerveldt tube shunt implantation from 24,09 ± 0,26 to 23,96 ± 0,27 mm;Decrease of corneal power (spherical equivalent) from 44,02 ± 1,22 D to 43,91 ± 1,32 D 6 months after tube implantation;

Conclusions:

Ahmed valve implantation causes mild hypermetropic shift (0,19 D) after 6 months after tube surgery;The reasons for these changes are:Axial length shortening from 23,61 ± 1,05 to 23,56 ± 1,1 mm (p = 0,23) 6 months after Ahmed implantation. Our data correlate with Francis B., et al (2005), they found AL shortening after Baerveldt tube shunt implantation from 24,09 ± 0,26 to 23,96 ± 0,27 mm;Decrease of corneal power (spherical equivalent) from 44,02 ± 1,22 D to 43,91 ± 1,32 D 6 months after tube implantation;In our study there was no statistically significant corneal astigmatism appearance; There no correlation between corneal astigmatism and tube position was found;In our study final SIA magnitude was 0,81 ± 0,36 D and SIA axis was 86,78 degrees 6 months after surgery.
