Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present a case of cataract phacoemulsification in the patient with Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy
Setting:
My Clinic, Kiev, Ukraine
Methods:
A 54-year-old, female with immature cataract, Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy, high degree myopia and astigmatism in both eyes.Preoperatively: VOD=0.02 sph -10.50 cyl-2.25 ax 10=0.2 (20/100) VOS=0.03 sph -8.50 cyl-1.25 ax 135=0.3 (20/70)Endoendothelial biomicroscopy left eye before phacoemulsification- dark patches on the endothelium, cell hexagonality is decreased.
Results:
Phacoemulsification of cataracts was performed on the left eye, surgical intervention and postoperative treatment was carried out according to the standard procedure. The patient was taking antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Endothelial biomicroscopy after phacoemulsification - the dark patches on the endothelium are preserved, cells hexagonality is reduced.
Conclusions:
One month later - UCVA OS 0.8 (20/25) The patient has been under observation for more than a year with preserved high visual functions. This case shows that phacoemulsification is a safe and effective procedure with good visual outcomes and high patient satisfaction despite the presence of Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy.
