Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present a case of aphakia and bullous keratopathy managed by Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK) and anterior iris-fixated IOL insertion.
Setting:
1st Department of Ophthalmology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, AHEPA Hospital, Thessaloniki, Greece.
Methods:
A 55-year-old, male patient presented to us complaining of burning sensation and visual acuity (VA) impairment in his left eye. His ophthalmic history revealed complicated phacoemulsification 2 years ago. Slit-lamp examination revealed aphakia and bullous keratopathy. The patient underwent anterior iris IOL fixation and DSAEK.
Results:
Following combined surgery, no complications occurred, endothelial graft and iris-fixated IOL remained in place, and cornea cleared.
Conclusions:
In the presence of aphakia and bullous keratopathy, combined DSAEK and iris-fixated IOL is a safe option for VA rehabilitation and restoration of endothelial function.
