Can an asymmetrical refractive multifocal IOL with +2.0D add help to address patient’s increasing individual and different demands?

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the optical, functional outcomes and patients satisfaction after Implantation of the asymmetric multifocal LENTIS M plus MF 20 .

Setting:

A private ophthalmic dayclinic

Methods:

In a prospective case study from September 2016-February 2017 Lentis M plus MF 20an were implanted in 20 eyes of 20 patients with cataract . If the patients were satisfied, the same IOl was implanted in the second eye, . If they wished a slight improvement in near vision, the second eye was implanted to achieve a small amount of myopia -0,5-0,75 D, those patients very dissatisfied with their near vision the LentisMplus MF 30 was implanted in the other eye. There were thus 3 groups of patients. Group 1 had bilateral implantation of the LENTIS M plus MF 20. ,Group 2 had bilateral Implantation with mini monovision as above,Group 3 Had the Lentis LENTIS M Plus M plus MF 20 in one eye and the LENTIS M plus MF 30 in the fellow eye .The preoperative refraction, postoperative uncorrected (UCVA), best corrected (BCVA) for distance and post-op refraction, distance corrected intermediate and near visual acuity were all evaluated. Follow up was three months after implantation. Quality of vision, glare, halos, ,independence from glasses , the patient satisfaction was were assessed with a validated questionnaire.

Results:

: All three groups achieved comparable binocular visual acuity for distance and intermediate Binocular near visual acuity was better in Group 2 than one ,. The best near vision was achieved in the third group. Binocular glares and halos were least in Group 1.Overall satisfaction was comparable between the groups. Interestingly the first group included only man, whilst the second group were mostly woman.

Conclusions:

Implantation of the Lentis LENTIS M plus MF 20 whether binocularly, or with micro mini monovision or as a mix- and match in this study resulted in a high level of satisfaction for all patients whatever their individual needs.
