Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate visual and optical performances of cataract eyes after phacoemulsification and trifocal IOL implantation(AT LISA tri 839 MP). Evaluation of a new method to improve visual outcomes based on eye selection and not on patients habits. To demonstrate that trifocal technology IOL has replaced Bifocal IOL in Contries were available

Setting:

C.M.A. Centro Microchirurgia Ambulatoriale Monza – Italy

Methods:

136 eyes of 85 patients (mean age: 67.82 ± 11.27 year) underwent uncomplicated phacoemulsification and trifocal IOL implantation. Preloaded IOL was implanted using an injector for a 2.4 corneal incision. Pre- and postoperatively, the following visual and refractive parameters were measured: distance (5m) near (40cm) and intermediate (80 cm) visual acuity, corneal topography and aberrometry, contrast sensitivity and defocus curve. Regular follow-up examinations were performed up to 4 years after surgery.

Results:

Preoperative distance UCVA was 20/112. At 5 years, distance UCVA was 20/20 , monocular and binocular uncorrected near vision and intermediate vision were 20/32. After four year experience with trifocal technology, in 2015 and in 2016 we implanted these trifocal IOLs in 72 % of cataract. 92 % of eyes achieved postoperative refractive results within ± 0.50 diopters from plano almost in one eye.

Conclusions:

Trifocal IOL provided good distance and near as well as intermediate visual acuity. This lens provides superior quality of vision. Eyes and IOLs power selection adopting best advanced technology and an improved organization are the most important key points to get successful results
