Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the visual acuity, refractive results and contrast sensitivity function of patients who underwent phacoemulsification operation with blue light-filtering aspheric hydrophobic acrylic IOL or standart UV light-filtering aspheric hydrophobic acrylic IOL implantation.
Setting:
56 eyes of 56 patients who underwent uncomplicated cataract surgery between March 2014-March 2015 at Eye Clinic of Istanbul Education and Research Hospital were included in this study.
Methods:
Patients files were evaluated retrospectively. Patients were divided into two groups according to the implanted IOL. Preoperative and postoperative 1st week; 1st month and 3rd month examination findings were recorded. SPSS 15.0 for Windows program was used for statistical analysis. Statistical significance level of alpha was accepted as p <0,05.
Results:
The two groups were homogeneous in terms of age range, gender, eye laterality, preoperative axial length and central macular thickness. There were no statistically significant differences between the preoperative, postoperative 1st week, 1st month and 3rd month best corrected visual acuity and spheric equivalant values of the two IOL groups. There were also no statistically significant differences in terms of postoperative 1st month and 3rd month photopic (85cd/m2) and mesopic (3cd/m2) contrast sensitivity values measured at different spacial frequencies (3cpd, 6cpd,12cpd ve 18cpd) (p>0,05).
Conclusions:
This study shows that postoperative visual acuity, scotopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity with blue light-filtering IOL is approximately equal to that of standard UV light-filtering IOL.
