Abstract Details

Purpose:

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the refractive outcomes after Pterygium surgery

Setting:

Central Military University Hospital, Bucharest Romania

Methods:

A Prospective study was made, with 25 cases of Pterygium during January 2017-Ocomber 2017 at the Department of Ophthalmology in Central Military University Hospital Bucharest. The technic used was Pterygium Excision with Conjunctival Autografting. Before the surgery, the mean astigamtic value was 5.75 diopters (D) (range, 0-11.5 D). The followed parameters were visual acuity, refraction , the corneal curvature and the invasion length. .Measurements were made Preop, 2 weeks and 1 month with Automated Keratorefractometer, Pentacam, Anterior OCT.

Results:

After surgery, The mean astigmatic value decreased to 2.315 (range 0-4.5 Diopters) with changes in the astigmatism degree. Better results were at patients with a <3mm pterygium size.

Conclusions:

We found a significant correlation between the size of the pterigyum and the impact on refractive outcomes. We recommend that Pterigyum surgery should be performed before 3 mm size.
