Abstract Details

Purpose:

First experience with new surgical method of hyperopia correction

Setting:

Gemini Eye Clinics, Czech Republic + Austria

Methods:

4 eyes of 2 hyperopic patients were treated by relex smile by Visumax (Carl Zeiss Meditec) femtosecond laser. Cap thickness was 160 microns, diameter of lenticule 8,2mm. Lenticle was manually extracted. Tobramicin and dexamethazon eye drops were instilled 3 times a day until the bottle was empty. UDVA, CDVA, refraction and corneal topography and tomography were assessed.

Results:

The first patient had refraction OD +4 +2,5 ax 100 and OS +4 +2,25 ax 80. CDVA 1,0 both eyes. One week after surgery is spherical equivalent both eyes -0,25D sf. eq. and CDVA 0,7. Corneas are clear and patient happy. The second patient had refraction OD +0,5 +2,5 ax 105 with CDVA 1,0 and OS +1,25 +1,5 ax 70 with CDVA 0,8. One week after surgery spherical equivalent OD is -0,5 D sf. eq. with both UDVA and CDVA 0,8 and OS -0,25 D sf. eq. with both UDVA and CDVA 0,5. Corneas are clear and patient happy.

Conclusions:

First very short-term results of new surgical correction of hyperopia by relex smile seems promising. Longer follow up and more patients is required. The results are part of multicenter clinical study.
