Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the repeatability and reproducibility results of biometric measurements of intraocular anatomic structures by swept source optical coherence tomography device (IOL Master®700) and partial coherence interferometry optical coherence tomography (IOL Master®500)

Setting:

Bahcesehir University School of Medicine, Medical Park Hospital, Goztepe, Istanbul, Turkey

Methods:

The study included 104 eyes of 52 healthy individuals. Biometric measurements were performed five times for each eye with IOL Master®500 (Carl Zeiss Jena, Germany) and IOL Master®700 (Carl Zeiss Jena, Germany) at the same day by the same technician. The axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD), keratometry readings (K1, K2, K) measurements were recorded. The repeatability of lens thickness (LT) and white-to-white (WTW) measurements by IOL Master® 700 were recorded after repeated measurements. Agreement of ocular biometry between the 2 devices was evaluated using Bland-Altman plots. The mean values were compared with the paired sample t-test.

Results:

The measurements of ICC values of IOL Master® 700 and IOL Master® 500 demonstrated high-level agreement for AL, ACD, K1, K2 and K, and the agreement of mean scores for these parameters was high (ICC≥0.989). Statistically significant difference was noted between the mean ACD, K and K2 measurements by IOL Master® 700 and IOL Master® 500 (p<0.05). For ACD, K and K2 measurements, IOL Master® 700 scores were lower than IOL Master® 500.

Conclusions:

IOL Master® 700 measurements demonstrated high level repeatability in every biometric parameter except WTW. IOL Master® 700 measurements were found be mostly consistent with IOL Master® 500 measurements.
