Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze the effect of different ICRS depths on visual, refractive and topographic parameters

Setting:

Hospital de Braga, Portugal

Methods:

After manual implantation, ICRS depth was measured 6 months after the procedure using Swept-Source AS-OCT (Casia SS-1000, Tomey), and patients were divided into 2 groups: group 1 included patients in which the ICRS was located ≤30µm away from the intended depth, and group 2 included patients in which the ICRS was > 30 µm away from the intended depth of implantation. Visual, refractive and topographic parameters were measured and vectorial astigmatism analysis (Thibos method) was performed and compared between both groups at 6 months follow-up.

Results:

Group 1 included 36 patients and Group 2 included 63 patients. No statistical difference was found between both groups at baseline in any of the parameters evaluated. Both UDVA and CDVA improved in both groups (p<0.01), and no difference was found between both groups (UDVA p=0.79; CDVA p=0.86). No statistical difference was seen between the 2 groups regarding refractive sphere, refractive cylinder and topographic cylinder at 6M follow-up. In Group 1 no change was observed in J0, J45 and B, while a change in the vector magnitude could be seen in Group 2 at 6 months follow-up.

Conclusions:

Different depths of ICRS implantation in relation to the primarily intended depth did not show a significant effect on visual, refractive and topographic parameters.
